The Regional Office of the Ministry of Law in the Special Region of Yogyakarta (DIY) is facilitating 30 free copyright registrations for the public through a legal consultation service opened in the Malioboro area of Yogyakarta. Agung Rektono Seto, Head of the DIY Ministry of Law Regional Office, stated on Sunday that the service is provided to bring legal service access closer to the public in communal spaces. He added that the free registration for 30 copyrights aims to encourage the public to protect their intellectual property. In addition to copyright registration, the DIY Law Ministry is offering consultations on trademark and patent registration, individual limited liability companies, and legal aid services. Agung noted that the activity is being held to commemorate the 81st Anniversary of the Independence of the Republic of Indonesia and Hari Pengayoman. According to him, public awareness in DIY regarding intellectual property protection is continuously growing, particularly among micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs), artists, and artisan communities. Agung stated that intellectual property protection is necessary to provide legal certainty for works and products while supporting business development and the creative economy. Nanik Sri Handayani, Chair of the Bantul Regency Art Studio Community, said her community utilised the service to register the copyright for three dance works. She assessed that public space services make it easier for art communities to obtain information and assistance regarding the protection of their works. Nanik also encouraged other art communities to take advantage of copyright registration as part of efforts to protect works from unauthorised use.
