DIY Government Investigates Alleged Bullying at SMAN 2 Bantul, Involving DP3APPKB
The Yogyakarta Special Region (DIY) government has affirmed its zero-tolerance stance towards any form of alleged bullying or psychological violence within the educational environment. This response follows a case that emerged at SMAN 2 Bantul, DIY. The alleged case gained public attention after a graduate of the school shared a traumatic account via a social media thread. The survivor presented medical records indicating severe mental health disorders allegedly caused by unfair treatment, slander, and discriminatory actions by certain educators during their school years. Acting Head of the DIY Education, Youth, and Sports Office (Disdikpora), Muhammad Setiadi, stated that his office moved swiftly to follow up on the complaint. Disdikpora held a coordination meeting with various stakeholders, including the school and its committee. Setiadi emphasised that the handling of the case has been fully handed over to the Bantul Regency Office of Women’s Empowerment and Child Protection, Population Control and Family Planning (DP3APPKB) to ensure objectivity. ‘We have fully handed over the assessment process to the Bantul DP3APPKB so that it proceeds according to the applicable Standard Operating Procedures without intervention. The results of this assessment will serve as our reference in determining subsequent policies and follow-up actions,’ he said on Friday (19/6/2026). The Head of Bantul DP3APPKB, Gunawan Budi Santoso, confirmed that a formal report regarding the case has been received. His office is currently conducting a careful assessment procedure, prioritising the protection of the complainant’s data. ‘The report has been received and is being followed up according to procedure. We fully guarantee the protection of the complainant’s data so that the handling proceeds safely and objectively,’ Gunawan stressed. In a written statement, the Head of SMAN 2 Bantul, Isti Fatimah, conveyed an apology to the survivor, the family, and the public. She affirmed that the school is ready to take responsibility for the dynamics that occurred. ‘If in the future it is proven that there were violations, abuse of authority, or negligence by any teaching staff, we are ready to accept sanctions in accordance with civil service regulations and applicable laws,’ she stated. She added that this incident will serve as a momentum for a total evaluation to ensure the learning environment at SMAN 2 Bantul becomes safer and more inclusive for all students. The school has also opened an official communication channel for the public who wish to provide input or additional information regarding the improvement of educational services.
