Diverse Strategies by Pramono to Reduce Fuel Oil Dependency in Jakarta
JAKARTA – Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung is preparing several steps to reduce public dependence on fuel oil (BBM), particularly amid the rise in non-subsidised BBM prices that impact residents’ daily expenses.
One of the main efforts being prepared is to encourage the public to switch to public transportation.
Pramono stated that the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government (Pemprov) continues to improve the quality of public transport services to make them more comfortable, safe, and affordable.
“The DKI Jakarta Government will make breakthroughs so that the number of people using non-subsidised BBM decreases by encouraging them to use public transportation,” said Pramono when met in the Kebayoran area, Central Jakarta, on Sunday (19/4/2026).
The DKI Jakarta Provincial Government is also expanding intermodal transport integration, from Transjakarta, MRT Jakarta, to LRT Jakarta.
In addition, Transjakarta services are being extended to buffer areas such as Depok, Bogor, Bekasi, and Banten regions so that mobility to and from Jakarta can be done without private vehicles.
Meanwhile, the construction of MRT Jakarta is targeted to reach the Kota Tua area and be completed in 2029. Pramono is optimistic that the integration of various transport modes will revive that historic area.
“Because once that’s done, the KRL will run, the MRT will run, TransJabodetabek or TransJakarta to Kota Tua will run, I’m sure Kota Tua will become a new place that residents will visit,” he explained.
As of the end of December 2025, the construction progress has reached 89.22 percent. Once operational, the LRT is projected to carry up to 80,000 passengers per day.
On the other hand, the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government is also beginning to develop the use of alternative energy to reduce dependence on BBM, one of which is through the installation of solar panels.
Pramono mentioned that this step is important, especially amid global geopolitical tensions that can affect energy supplies, including BBM.
“Regarding efficiency and alternative energy. Jakarta is currently developing one of them, which is solar panels,” said Pramono during a press conference on the realisation of the APBD for the first quarter of 2026 at Jakarta City Hall, Friday (17/4/2026).
Nevertheless, this policy is still in the preparation stage and will be regulated further.
“This policy will be carried out in more detail so that there is an alternative to reduce dependence on fossil energy,” he said.
