Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Directorate of Traffic (Ditlantas) of Metro Jaya Police is deploying 1,793 personnel to escort the International Labour Day or May Day commemoration centred in the Monas area, Central Jakarta, on Friday, 1 May 2026.

“No fewer than 1,793 traffic personnel will be deployed in the field, from the arrival of the workers to the implementation and conclusion of the event,” said the Director of Traffic of Metro Jaya Police, Senior Commissioner Pol Komarudin, in Jakarta on Thursday.

Based on information from police officers, he said workers from East Java had already begun moving on Thursday afternoon and were expected to arrive in Jakarta by dawn on Friday (1/5).

“This includes several regions from other areas,” Komarudin stated.

To this end, his side has held coordination meetings involving all Traffic Directorates from several regions, starting from Ditlantas of East Java Police, Central Java, West Java, Banten to Lampung.

“All will be led by the National Traffic Corps to ensure the movement of fellow workers in the 2026 International Labour Day implementation runs orderly, safely, and smoothly,” Komarudin remarked.

He mentioned that the number of workers expected to participate in the International Labour Day commemoration in the Monas area is estimated to reach 200,000 people.

“Based on the latest data we received, more than 200,000 workers will head to Monas, and there are several groups that may carry out activities at several points in Jakarta,” Komarudin revealed.

“However, we will endeavour to ensure all activities proceed even with some slowdowns,” Komarudin added.

Furthermore, he noted that his side will implement traffic engineering to manage travel routes for workers coming from East Java, Central Java, West Java, as well as Lampung.

“We have arranged the flow towards Monas, including bus parking pockets that will be used,” Komarudin supplemented.

He also estimated that around 4,000 bus units transporting workers will head to Jakarta, and traffic police have begun making arrangements accordingly.

In addition to the Monas area, police are also focusing on several community activities at other locations, one of which is at Istora Senayan.

“From tomorrow or even this afternoon, there is expected to be movement of Jakarta residents who may leave Jakarta or people from outside coming to holiday in Jakarta,” Komarudin stated.
