Kodam III/Siliwangi has detained Corporal R, who is allegedly involved in the physical assault of two Brimob members from the Banten Regional Police in Serang City. The case began with a dispute involving debt collectors (locally known as ‘mata elang’) attempting to repossess a vehicle belonging to a Brimob officer.

‘The sequence of events began with a dispute over the repossession or control of a vehicle involving debt collectors and members of the Banten Regional Police Brimob Unit,’ stated the Commander of Kodim 0602/Serang, Colonel Arm Oke Kistiyanto, on Friday (5/6/2026).

Kistiyanto explained that this clarification is intended to correct information and opinions circulating on social media regarding the incident. He noted that oversimplifying the issue or making premature conclusions could mislead the public and obscure the actual substance of the problem.

He stated that the legal case must be viewed holistically, objectively, and based on the facts currently being investigated by the relevant authorities. During the dispute over the vehicle repossession, the debt collectors contacted an individual member of the TNI (Indonesian National Armed Forces).

‘As the situation developed, an interaction occurred that subsequently involved a member of Kodim 0602/Serang,’ he said.

He emphasised that this case must be viewed as a series of events with a specific context and chronology, rather than an action that can be immediately generalised to the entire institution. He reaffirmed that the Indonesian Army (TNI AD) is strongly committed to the principle that every soldier must submit to the law and military discipline. He added that there is zero tolerance for actions that contravers the law or existing regulations within the TNI.

‘On this basis, the member allegedly involved has been detained and is currently under the handling of Denpom III/Serang to undergo a thorough process of investigation, deepening, and fact-gathering,’ he said.

Kistiyanto stated that any alleged violation must be tested through the applicable legal mechanism to produce an objective, fair, and accountable conclusion. He asserted that if found guilty, the member will be punished.

‘The principle held by the TNI is simple and clear: if proven to have committed a violation, the individual must be held accountable for their actions in accordance with applicable laws,’ he emphasised.

Ensuring TNI-Polri Solidarity

Kistiyanto stated that Kodim 0602/Serang has also been coordinating intensively with the Serang Kota Police Chief, the Commander of the Banten Regional Police Brimob Unit, and Denpom III/Serang. This step is a form of shared responsibility to maintain regional security stability, prevent misunderstandings within the community, and ensure the handling process proceeds professionally without being influenced by public opinion.

‘It must be emphasised that the relationship between the TNI and the Polri in this incident remains good, professional, and based on the spirit of safeguarding the interests of the nation and state. There is no room for attempts to protect one another or to blame one another,’ he said.

He reaffirmed the commitment to prioritising law enforcement, fact-finding, and resolving issues according to the authority of each respective institution. Kistiyanto stated that sanctions will be imposed according to applicable regulations.

‘Therefore, the developing narrative suggesting that the TNI expects special treatment, requests leniency, or relies on institutional relationships to avoid legal processes is an unfounded assumption. The Indonesian Army never expects mercy from any institution in the enforcement of the law,’ he said.

He stated that the institution fully supports law enforcement through the applicable mechanisms if TNI members are proven to have committed violations. He encouraged the legal process to be objective, professional, transparent, and based on facts.

Kistiyanto emphasised that the TNI AD continues to uphold the supremacy of law, supports TNI-Polri synergy, and is committed to maintaining public trust through an open, accountable, and responsible attitude in every law enforcement process.

‘The public also needs to see that the main focus of handling this case is to fully uncover the root of the problem and the sequence of events behind it. Therefore, the public is expected not to get caught up in narratives that generalise individual actions as a representation of the institution,’ he concluded.
