District Government Intensifies Waste Sorting Campaign from Source on Tidung Island
Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Thousand Islands Environmental Sub-Department (Sudin LH) is intensifying the socialisation of the Waste Sorting Movement to the community at the Child-Friendly Open Public Space (RPTRA) Tidung Ceria, Tidung Island, South Thousand Islands, so that the public begins to carry out the activity. “This activity is an effort to encourage the community to start sorting and processing waste directly from the source,” said the Head of the Community Participation and Legal Arrangement Section of the Thousand Islands Sudin LH, Riza Lestari Ningsih, in Jakarta on Tuesday. According to her, this action is a follow-up to the socialisation of Governor’s Instruction No. 5 of 2026 on the Waste Sorting and Processing Movement from the Source. Through this activity, they educate the public on types of waste and how to process them so that people can start sorting waste from home. She said that in this socialisation, participants are given an understanding of grouping organic, inorganic, B3, and residual waste, including the proper management procedures for each type of waste. Riza added that this activity is also being carried out in the Panggang Island sub-district and is expected to increase public awareness of the importance of reducing waste from household environments. She hopes that all residents of Tidung Island can consistently apply the habit of sorting waste at home. This aims to reduce the volume of waste sent to the Integrated Waste Processing Site (TPST) Bantar Gebang. “If 100 percent of Tidung Island residents sort waste at home, the waste will no longer be entirely transported to Bantar Gebang,” she said.
