District Attorney's Office awaits investigation results regarding fake Singapore dollar case
The Tangerang Regency District Attorney’s Office (Kejari) has stated that it is still awaiting the results of the investigation by the South Tangerang Police (Polres Tangsel) regarding the alleged circulation of counterfeit 10,000 Singapore dollar notes, valued at 340,000 Singapore dollars.
The Head of the General Crimes Section of the Tangerang Regency District Attorney’s Office, Hifni, stated that his office received the Notice of the Commencement of Investigation (SPDP) from the South Tangerang Police investigators on 14 September 2026.
“We received the (SPDP) on 14 September 2026,” Hifni said in a statement received in Jakarta on Tuesday.
According to him, the Tangerang Regency District Attorney’s Office is currently waiting for the investigation results from the South Tangerang Police investigators.
“At this time, we are waiting for the investigation results from the investigators (South Tangerang Police),” he said.
Hifni noted that the designation of suspects remains the authority of the investigators. He suspects that the investigators are still completing the necessary evidence before naming suspects in the case.
“Regarding the designation of suspects, the authority lies with the investigators. They may be completing the evidence to designate suspects,” he said.
Hifni continued that once the investigation results are received, prosecutors will conduct a review of the case files to ensure all formal and material requirements are met for preparing indictments and prosecutions.
“We are waiting for the investigation results from the investigators. Once we receive the results, we will conduct a study to ensure the completeness of formal and material requirements,” he added.
Previously, the South Tangerang Police had upgraded the handling of the alleged counterfeit money case from the investigation stage to the full investigation stage on 9 September 2026.
In this case, the South Tangerang Police have taken statements from six witnesses.
The South Tangerang Police Chief, AKBP Boy Jumalolo, stated that his office is also coordinating with the Indonesian National Police’s International Relations Division to request information from the Singapore Police regarding the investigation status of an Indonesian citizen currently in that country.
Police are still awaiting an official response from the Singaporean authorities.
The case was previously reported to the Metro Jaya Regional Police on 3 July 2026 and was subsequently transferred to the South Tangerang Police.
Member of Commission III of the Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR RI), Rizki Faisal, has called on the police to immediately designate suspects in the case.
He argued that the upgrade of the case status from investigation to full investigation should be followed by concrete steps by investigators to determine the responsible parties, provided that the evidence and facts collected meet the provisions of criminal procedure law.
“Looking at the threat of Article 374 applied by the investigators, which carries a 10-year prison sentence and a fine of Rp5 billion, this counterfeit money falls into the category of a serious crime, which necessitates the immediate designation of suspects and detention,” Rizki said in a statement in Jakarta on Friday (18/9).
