Distributing Free Masks to Residents, Jakarta Legislator Ensures Easy Access
A member of the Jakarta DPRD Commission C, Hardiyton Kenneth, took to the streets to distribute free masks to motorists and pedestrians in the Jalan Latumenten area, West Jakarta. This step was taken as a mitigation measure against the spread of volcanic ash that has affected the capital since Sunday (6/9).
Kenneth stated that this free mask distribution also serves as a response to the surge in mask prices in the market following the eruption. This action aligns with the directives of the Governor of Jakarta, Pramono Anung, who has requested all regional levels to prioritise the health protection of residents.
“As an anticipatory measure against exposure to volcanic ash from Mount Anak Krakatau, I am distributing free masks. Today we have prepared 100 boxes and will distribute them until they are exhausted,” Kenneth said in a statement on Wednesday (9/9).
The PDI Perjuangan politician warned traders not to exploit the situation by unreasonably inflating mask prices. He emphasised that any price increases must remain within reasonable margins in accordance with local government regulations.
He ensured that the distribution of masks will be carried out periodically and that distribution points will be expanded if the impact of the volcanic ash continues. Residents experiencing difficulty obtaining masks have been asked to contact him directly.
“For the people of Jakarta who find it difficult to obtain masks or find the prices too expensive, please contact me via social media. Do not hesitate; it is our duty to look after the health of the citizens, and I will provide them free of charge,” he asserted.
