Distressed by Gaza Genocide, Palestinian Flag Officially Raised at Slovenian Presidential Palace
Slovenian President Nataša Pirc Musar has decided to fly the Palestinian flag at the Presidential Palace as a form of support for the Palestinian struggle, on Saturday (6/6). This step was taken after the Palestinian flag was lowered from the central government building following the rise to power of conservative Prime Minister Janez Janša after the elections on 22 March.
In a post on X, Pirc Musar stated that the flag will continue to fly at the palace for one week before being moved indoors to be displayed to visitors. According to her, this decision carries both political and moral significance in supporting the Palestinian struggle and international law. She noted that the Palestinian flag is not merely a national symbol, but also serves as a reminder of serious violations of international humanitarian law in Palestine and elsewhere.
The President of Slovenia highlighted the ongoing suffering of the Palestinian people in the Gaza Strip and the West Bank, emphasising that the genocide against Palestinians continues and that the residents of Gaza and the West Bank are not living in conditions that guarantee human dignity. Furthermore, she stated that the raising of the flag is an expression of solidarity with the legitimate rights of the Palestinian people.
