Distance Learning Ends, Pramono: Schools Return to Normal Tomorrow
The Jakarta Provincial Government has confirmed that distance learning (PJJ) has ended, and all educational units in Jakarta will return to face-to-face teaching and learning processes starting tomorrow. This policy was adopted following the mitigation of the impacts of Mount Anak Krakatau’s activity and the assessment that flight operations in the capital region have returned to normal.
Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung confirmed that the Jakarta Education Office has been requested to immediately issue an official Circular Letter (SE) regarding the cessation of distance learning. “Regarding distance learning, schools will return to normal tomorrow. I have requested the Head of the Education Office to immediately issue the SE. There are various reasons, one of which is that flight operations themselves are now considered to be running normally,” Pramono stated in Central Jakarta on Tuesday (8/9).
The administration is also accelerating the recovery of air quality and weather management through Weather Modification Operations (OMC). Separately, the Head of the Jakarta Education Office, Nahdiana, stated that face-to-face learning (PTM) across all educational units in Jakarta will resume starting Wednesday, 9 September 2026.
“Based on Circular Letter Number 92/SE/2026, due to the reduction of volcanic ash in the Jakarta Province area and in order to optimise learning achievements while prioritising the health and safety of the educational community members,” she explained.
She also advised that to ensure the teaching and learning process remains safe and comfortable, the ‘five M’ steps should be implemented together: wearing masks during outdoor activities, limiting outdoor activities, closing school doors and windows tightly to prevent ash from entering rooms, and cleaning ash by wetting it first or using a damp cloth.
Furthermore, Nahdiana requested that the public monitor the latest information from official government channels and authorised agencies, and avoid unverified information. “The public is urged that if they encounter or experience an emergency, they can contact the Jakarta Siaga 112 Call Centre,” she concluded.
Pramono ensured that all ranks of the Jakarta Provincial Government remain prepared in the field until the air situation in Jakarta truly returns to normal. He instructed the Jakarta Education Office to immediately issue the official regulation in the form of a Circular Letter (SE) as a reference for all school parties.
