Dissolve Rights Commission

Dissolve Rights Commission

From Warta Kota

The fact that Hendardi and Wardah Hafidz, who are famous for
championing human rights, failed to get in the new line-up of the
National Human Rights Commission implies that the old/status quo
forces are still very strong in every line of life. So, what is
this commission heading for?

The status quo forces prefer to see conservative people
included in this commission. Former chairman of the commission,
Djoko S., and his colleagues are a good example. They have been
re-elected for the next term of office although their performance
is a far cry from the people's expectations.

One may get the impression now that this commission acts more
as an institution that obstructs justice against human rights
crimes.

In view of this feature of the commission, I would like to
suggest to the government that this commission had better be
dissolved. Its presence in the community is neither effective nor
efficient. In fact, the commission is only increasing the
ignorance of the community.

All this simply shows that there is no political will on the
part of the government, with the support from politicians in the
House, to uphold justice in laws and human rights.
