Disruption on Purwokerto Rail Line Leads to KAI Rerouting and Cancelling Trains to and from Jakarta
A rail line disruption in the Purwokerto operational area 5, Central Java, has caused several long-distance train journeys to and from Jakarta to be rerouted or cancelled. PT Kereta Api Indonesia (Persero), through its Jakarta Operational Area 1, has expressed apologies to customers for the operational disruption. The disruption occurred on Monday (6/4/2026) starting at 14:15 WIB, rendering both upstream and downstream tracks temporarily impassable. “We apologise for the inconvenience caused. Currently, KAI is taking various swift handling measures, with safety of travel as the utmost priority,” said Franoto in an official statement on Monday. He explained that several train journeys have been rerouted via alternative paths or loops, while others have been cancelled. “We are implementing engineering measures such as route diversions and cancellations. These steps are taken to ensure safety and to minimise broader delay impacts,” he stated. In addition to route diversions, KAI has also cancelled several train journeys. “We continue to strive to provide the best service under these conditions, including ensuring all customers receive their rights properly,” he said. Customers can cancel tickets via the Access by KAI application, Contact Centre 121, and other official channels. Refunds can be processed 24/7 from the scheduled departure time on the ticket. For passengers experiencing delays, KAI is providing service recovery in the form of mineral water, light snacks, and full meals as per regulations. “We once again apologise for this inconvenience. KAI is committed to restoring operational conditions as soon as possible and ensuring smooth train travel,” Franoto concluded.
