Dispute over U-turn area triggers group brawl in Tebet

Jakarta (ANTARA) - A dispute between residents operating in a U-turn area is suspected to be the trigger for a group brawl between members of Gang Manggis and Gang Sawo in South Manggarai, Tebet, South Jakarta.

“Initially, there is a U-turn area. Residents from Gang Manggis and Gang Sawo earn their livelihoods there, and there may have been a misunder extquotelefts perception, which ultimately led to the fight,” said Tebet Police Chief, AKP Ischak, during a press conference at the South Jakarta Metro Police Headquarters on Monday.

Ischak stated that the incident began when several individuals from both groups, who typically work around the U-turn area, became involved in a dispute. He explained that it has not yet been confirmed whether the issue relates to the distribution of money or parking fees at the location.

The brawl took place on Saturday (19/9) at approximately 19:50 WIB and involved residents from RW 07 and RW 09. The police received reports from the public as well as via the 110 emergency service regarding the incident.

Tebet Police officers subsequently arrived at the scene and worked to disperse the crowd. The individuals involved in the brawl were successfully dispersed within approximately five to seven minutes.

Five individuals, identified by the initials MF, RAT, FP, RA, and AL, were detained. Police identified them through CCTV footage and circulating amateur videos.

“Using the CCTV footage, we carried out security measures and arrests by matching the clothing they were wearing during the clash or brawl,” said Iptu Robby Pasha, Sub-unit Resmob of the South Jakarta Police.

Police noted that the five individuals taken into custody are all over the age of 17. Police also conducted urine tests on the five detainees, and the results showed no evidence of drug use. The individuals belong to both involved groups, Gang Manggis and Gang Sawo.

As of now, the police are continuing their investigation into other perpetrators and the seizure of sharp weapons suspected to have been used in the brawl. There were no fatalities or injuries reported as a result of the incident.
