Police mediated a dispute between residents of RT 7 and the Zenix Cimanggis housing complex in Jatijajar, Depok, after an objection was raised to rubbish being burned. The case has now ended amicably.

“The mediation was completed last night and the matter was settled peacefully,” Depok Metro Police Public Relations chief AKP Hendra Kurniawan said, as quoted by Detik on Monday (12 October).

The dispute began on Tuesday (29 September), when S, a resident of RT 7, and A, a resident of Zenix Cimanggis, argued over smoke from burning rubbish.

The RT 7 resident had burned rubbish in his garden. The smoke spread to the Zenix Cimanggis housing complex.

“A resident of Zenix Cimanggis, Mr A, felt disturbed by the smoke from the rubbish burning,” he said.

A resident of the housing complex then posted about the incident on social media. The RT 7 resident considered the post damaging to him.

“After the issue was posted on social media, Mr S’s family felt uncomfortable and disturbed. They asked A to delete or take down the video that had been uploaded,” he said.

However, the resident of Zenix Cimanggis refused to remove the post. This angered residents, who eventually put up a barrier across the access road to the housing complex.

Police first mediated between the two sides on Sunday afternoon (11 October). The meeting failed to produce an agreement because one party was absent.

Police subsequently held another mediation session. The two sides agreed to make peace, and the barrier was removed.

“It has been reopened,” he said.
