Disproportional rise of bus fee
Disproportional rise of bus fee
From Jayakarta
The issue of the increase of fees of public transportation -- Kopaja, Metromini, PPD, Mayasari -- has been widely publicized in the media. All those transportation companies agreed to the projected tariff increase. On the other hand, the community, or the users of public transport, are strongly against the sharp increase of fees.
The proposed increase is viewed to be disproportional. The Kopaja and Metromini tariffs are raised from Rp 300 to Rp 700; big buses from Rp 250 to Rp 500; ordinary air-conditioned buses (limited passengers) from Rp 550 to Rp 900 and the more luxurious air-conditioned buses from Rp 1,300 to Rp 1,900.
Protests from the public, including members of the House of Representatives, assert that the increases are disproportional. The public is not ready for such big increases.
In this instance users of public transportation have asked the government to consider a more moderate increase in transportation fees.
