Jakarta (ANTARA) - Julio Yusuf, head of the sports achievement sub-group at Jakarta’s Youth and Sports Office (Dispora), has said the office wants the Jakarta Triathlon to become a World Series event in the future.

Speaking at a press conference in Jakarta on Friday, Julio explained that sporting events in the capital must be able to achieve World Series status as a demonstration of Jakarta’s readiness to become a global city.

“This can support Jakarta’s sport tourism and bring Indonesia’s name to the international level as a sport tourism destination,” Julio explained.

“Going forward, I am confident the Jakarta Triathlon can become a World Series event with participants not only from the national level, but international ones as well,” he added.

Julio continued that the Jakarta Triathlon can serve as a talent-scouting platform for multi-sport events such as the National Sports Week (PON), the SEA Games and the Asian Games.

“These activities can produce a new generation of athletes for Jakarta in particular, for Indonesia, and internationally as well,” Julio said.

The staging of the Jakarta Triathlon 2026 is the result of synergy between the Jakarta provincial government, through its Tourism and Creative Economy Department, and the Indonesian Triathlon Federation (FTI), the governing body for the sport of triathlon in Indonesia.

This collaboration reflects a shared commitment to delivering a competition that meets sporting event standards, while strengthening athlete development, increasing public participation and expanding the development of sport tourism in Indonesia.

Through this collaboration, the Jakarta Triathlon 2026 is expected to become an annual fixture capable of attracting national and international athletes to compete in Jakarta.
