Displaced residents starve

SERANG, West Java: Residents of Tersana village in the Kaseman sub-district, whose houses were recently flattened in a major wind storm, are running out of food stuffs, Antara reported on Saturday.

"Most villagers here are farmers with a daily income of Rp 2,500 ($1.1), just enough to survive for the day," some victims said.

The whirlwind that swept through the isolated village on Friday caused no fatalities, although some people were injured. It flattened four houses, seriously damaged four others and slightly damaged a dozen buildings.

The Serang administration has committed to send in food relief to the victims.(imn)
