Displaced Persons in Nagekeo Receive Free Food and Drink from Police Field Kitchen

Displaced persons at the Berdikari Danga Field evacuation centre in Aesesa District, Nagekeo, East Nusa Tenggara (NTT), are receiving free food and drinks from a field kitchen operated by the Indonesian National Police (Polri).

The Berdikari Danga Field evacuation centre is primarily occupied by residents from Marapokot, Nangadhero, and Tonggurambang villages. These three villages were severely impacted by a 7.7 magnitude earthquake on Saturday, 15 August 2026.

“Every day we receive free food and drink from the police. Usually, we receive rations three times a day,” said one displaced person, Skolastika Sau Nelo, when met at the location on Sunday, 30 August 2026.

The 35-year-old woman remains at the centre until there are no more aftershocks. Additionally, she is still awaiting temporary housing assistance from the government.

“We are still here, unable to return home because we are waiting for temporary housing assistance,” Skolastika said.

Another resident, Lidwina Konga (30), shared a similar sentiment. According to her, they continue to receive food and drink from police officers every day during their stay at the centre.

“To be honest, we are staying here because we receive food from the police. In fact, we had planned to go home, but they (the police) advised us to wait until the situation is safe before returning. I remember crying because, without them, we would have perished,” Winda explained.

The Head of Public Relations for the East Nusa Tenggara Regional Police, Kombes Henry Novika Chandra, explained that the police field kitchen remains on standby at Danga Field to serve the displaced persons still residing there.

According to Henry, the menu varies every day to prevent boredom among the residents. The breakfast menu consists of noodles and fried eggs, while lunch includes cabbage, fried tempeh, and noodles.

“We also provide drinking water and clean water free of charge,” Henry clarified.
