Displaced persons get cash aid

MAGELANG, Central Java: More than 300 displaced persons from
Aceh, Maluku and East Timor, currently living in Magelang,
Central Java, received Rp 3.5 million (US$350) each in cash
assistance on Wednesday.

The assistance was presented by Magelang Regent Singgih
Sanyoto to representatives of the 319 displaced persons at the
Gemilang sports complex.

Singgih said this was the last cash assistance from the
central government for the 118 displaced persons from East Timor
and 201 from Aceh and Maluku, who are spread across eight
districts in Magelang.

"After this assistance, there will be no more (cash aid). This
also marks the end of their status as displaced persons," he
