Disorderly cabling and old poles suspected to cause leaning utility pole in Pademangan
Residents of Jalan Krapu, Pademangan, North Jakarta, say a utility pole leaning toward the road is caused by the heavy load of cables and the pole’s old age.
Pian (30), one of the residents, said the condition has persisted for a long time and has never been repaired.
‘Yeah, maybe it’s because it’s already heavy, and it’s old too. The poles are old and there are too many cables like this,’ Pian told Kompas.com on Friday (6 March 2026).
‘This is dangerous. Sometimes, when I see the drop is already too low, I just wedge it up. I’m afraid someone passing by might be hit,’ he said.
Arifin (40), another resident, added that the messy cabling often gets caught on container trucks.
‘The cables opposite are broken. Here the containers are tall,’ Arifin explained.
Residents hope the pole and cables will be repaired soon so as not to endanger residents and motorists.
‘I’m just worried that if the container driver doesn’t realise, the pole could be pulled,’ Arifin said.
Head of the North Jakarta Public Works Sub-Office, Darwin Ali, previously confirmed that they would follow up on residents’ complaints. He explained that coordination with the pole owner provider would be carried out to replace the leaning pole, while the cables would be arranged and tied to ensure safety.
‘The leaning pole will be replaced after coordination with the owner, and the overhead cables will be tidied to be safe,’ Darwin said.
