Disney to look over Thailand

BANGKOK (AFP): Three executives from the Disney Development Co. arrive in Bangkok today to scout locations for another Disney amusement park, a Thai official said.

The Americans will be looking at potential sites of at least 480 hectares some 150 kilometers or more from Bangkok, Veerayuth Chungsura, managing director of the Siam Park Co., said yesterday.

The new Disney park will include hotels, so a large tract of land is needed, Veerayuth told AFP. As land near Bangkok is very expensive, the Disney team will look at possible sites well outside the capital.

The Disney scouts are interested in Thailand because of the nation's strong economy, which is expected to grow by more than eight percent this year, and because of its stable government, he said.

China also is a candidate for the next Asian Disneyworld. Tokyo and Paris already have Disney theme parks.
