Disnakertrans: PT SBI fined Rp330 million for employing illegal foreign workers
Tanjungpinang (ANTARA) - The Foreign Worker Supervision Task Force (Satgas) of the Riau Islands Provincial Employment and Transmigration Office (Disnakertrans Kepri) has stated that PT Shanghai Baoye Indonesia (PT SBI) has been subjected to an administrative fine of Rp330 million for employing illegal foreign workers (TKA).
The Secretary of Disnakertrans Kepri, who also serves as the Head of the TKA Supervision Task Force, John Barus, explained that PT SBI is a subcontractor involved in constructing the Pulau Setokok Coal-Fired Power Plant (PLTU) project, specifically in the Batamindo industrial area, Batam City.
“The administrative fine is currently in the process of being paid by PT SBI through the account of the Ministry of Finance of the Republic of Indonesia, as non-tax state revenue (PNBP),” said John Barus when contacted in Tanjungpinang on Friday.
John explained that initially, the TKA Supervision Task Force of Disnakertrans Kepri conducted a surprise inspection (Sidak) at PT SBI, as the company employing TKA, on 26-27 March 2026.
He emphasised that the RPTKA is a mandatory document before employing TKA in Indonesia, as regulated by Government Regulation (PP) Number 34 of 2021 on the Use of TKA.
“Their admission (the TKA) indicates that some have just arrived, while others have been working at PT SBI for one to three months,” he revealed.
John stated that the company (PT SBI) is willing to pay the administrative fine of Rp330 million, evidenced by the signing of a statement letter submitted to the TKA Supervision Task Force.
For TKA found working without official documents, they can be deported and even risk being placed on a blacklist for working in Indonesia.
In addition, he stressed that TKA companions are required to transfer knowledge to accompanying Indonesian workers (TKI).
“TKA must also learn Indonesian,” he emphasised.
