Mataram, VIVA — Adjunct Police Commissioner (AKP) Malaungi has filed an appeal against the ruling of the National Police Ethics Board at the West Nusa Tenggara Regional Police, which imposed the sanction of Dishonourable Discharge — effectively a dismissal — in connection with his involvement in a narcotics case in Bima City.

AKP Malaungi, through his legal representative Asmuni, confirmed in Mataram on Monday that his client had pursued further legal action.

“Yes, on the same day as the Ethics Board ruling, we declared an appeal,” he said, as quoted on Monday, 16 February 2026.

In response to AKP Malaungi’s appeal, the West Nusa Tenggara Regional Police (Polda NTB) has yet to issue an official statement.

AKP Malaungi was handed the dishonourable discharge sanction as a member of the National Police through a hearing of the Police Professional Ethics Commission held at the NTB Regional Police headquarters in February 2026.

The ethics hearing was conducted based on the investigation findings of the NTB Regional Police Narcotics Directorate, which had named AKP Malaungi as a suspect in a methamphetamine distribution case.

Investigators at the NTB Regional Police Narcotics Directorate designated AKP Malaungi as a suspect under Article 114 Paragraph (2) in conjunction with Article 132 Paragraph (1) of Law Number 35 of 2009 on Narcotics, as amended by Law Number 1 of 2023 on the Criminal Code and Law Number 1 of 2026 on Criminal Adjustment, or Article 609 Paragraph (2) letter (a) of Law Number 1 of 2023 on the Criminal Code as amended by Law Number 1 of 2026 on Criminal Adjustment.

Through the course of the investigation, it was revealed that AKP Malaungi, in his capacity as Head of the Narcotics Unit at the Bima City Police, was found to be in possession of methamphetamine with a net weight of 488 grams.

The evidence was secured during a search of AKP Malaungi’s official residence within the Bima City Police barracks compound.

The discovery of the evidence followed AKP Malaungi’s own admission after undergoing a urine test that returned positive results for amphetamine — a compound found in ecstasy and MDMA — as well as methamphetamine.

Police stated that AKP Malaungi’s role was first uncovered through the interrogation of Brigadier Karol, who had been arrested earlier along with his wife and two associates in possession of dozens of grams of methamphetamine and tens of millions of rupiah in cash suspected to be proceeds from drug transactions.

Following the imposition of the dishonourable discharge sanction whilst holding suspect status in the narcotics distribution case, the NTB Regional Police detained AKP Malaungi in a special holding facility within the Professional and Security Division of the NTB Regional Police.
