Dismissed for Fraud and Online Gambling, Briptu AN Expelled from National Police

The Chief of Police for Kutai Kartanegara (Kukar), East Kalimantan, Adjutant Senior Commissioner Khairul Basyar, presided over a Dishonourable Discharge (PTDH) ceremony for a National Police member identified as Briptu AN. The dismissal ceremony was held at the Kukar Police Headquarters parade ground on Monday (22/6). Briptu AN, who previously served at the Kukar Police, was sanctioned with a PTDH based on a Decree from the East Kalimantan Police Chief after undergoing a series of legal processes and a Police professional ethics code hearing. The officer was dismissed after being proven involved in criminal acts of fraud and online gambling (judol). The PTDH procession was marked by the Kukar Police Chief crossing out the dismissed personnel’s photograph, symbolising that the individual is no longer part of the National Police institution. Khairul Basyar emphasised that the PTDH ceremony is not a celebration, but rather a form of enforcing the highest sanction within the Police ethical and disciplinary development system. “The PTDH against Briptu AN carried out today is a firm sanction because the individual was legally and convincingly proven to have committed criminal acts of fraud and online gambling,” said Khairul. Khairul explained that a PTDH is not merely an administrative action. According to him, this step reflects the National Police institution’s commitment to cleansing itself of any individuals who damage the institution’s dignity. He stated that rank, uniform, and public trust are a mandate that must be maintained with integrity. Therefore, a police officer proven to have committed a criminal act is deemed to have lost the right to hold the status of a public servant and protector of the community. “The officer we are dismissing today has undergone a tiered and objective series of legal processes. Based on the results of the investigation and internal process, the individual was proven to have violated criminal law and the Police professional code of ethics,” he said. Khairul stated that the legal process was conducted upholding the principle of presumption of innocence. However, the legal facts showed that the criminal elements were met and the court’s decision had permanent legal force. Subsequently, the Police Code of Ethics Commission also held an ethics hearing and recommended a PTDH because the actions were classified as severe and significantly damaged the image of the National Police. The Kukar Police Chief stressed that the case was not merely a personal violation. He stated that criminal acts by a police officer, including fraud, can have a broad impact on society. According to him, public trust that has been built can collapse in an instant when law enforcement officers themselves engage in actions that harm the community. “Victims in the community feel betrayed by law enforcement officers who are supposed to protect and serve them,” Khairul said. In addition to fraud, involvement in online gambling is also seen as a mental and spiritual failure. Khairul asserted that police officers should be a fortress against all forms of gambling that damage society. He said the officer’s involvement in online gambling instead made the individual part of the problem that damages the family economic ecosystem and the future of society. Khairul expressed hope that the PTDH process would become a turning point for the dismissed personnel to improve themselves, even though they are no longer part of the National Police institution. He also reminded all Kukar Police personnel to make this incident a valuable lesson to maintain integrity, improve discipline, and avoid all forms of violations. “Be professional, humanist, and trusted police officers,” he concluded.
