The Advocacy Team for Democracy (TAUD) assesses that the dismissal of the Head of the TNI’s Strategic Intelligence Agency (KA BAIS), Yudi Abrimantyo, is insufficient to meet demands for justice in the acid attack case against Andrie Yunus. TAUD urges that the case be investigated through the general courts and involve a comprehensive probe into the command chain within the TNI.

Deputy Director of Imparsial, Hussein Ahmad, stressed that job changes must not replace criminal legal processes.

“Job changes cannot be positioned as a substitute for criminal legal processes,” he stated to Media Indonesia on Thursday (26/3).

According to him, if involvement of superiors is found during the investigation, whether in the form of orders, approvals, or negligence, the appropriate action is not merely dismissal.

“The proper action is not only to dismiss but also to process those parties through the applicable legal mechanisms,” he said.

TAUD also views the incident befalling Andrie Yunus as a general criminal offence occurring in civilian space, thus it must be handled through the general courts, not military courts.

“There is no valid basis for bringing this case into the jurisdiction of military courts,” Hussein asserted.

Furthermore, TAUD urges the President to ensure that the case’s disclosure is conducted thoroughly and independently, including tracing the involvement of all actors in the command chain.

“The President must ensure that the disclosure of this case is conducted thoroughly and independently, including tracing the involvement of all actors in the command chain,” he said.

Additionally, TAUD encourages the Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR RI) to strengthen its oversight function, including through the formation of a Working Committee (Panja) in Commission III and optimisation of the Intelligence Oversight Team in Commission I.

“The oversight function must not replace an independent, transparent, and accountable legal process,” he concluded.

Previously, the Head of the TNI’s Strategic Intelligence Agency (KA BAIS), Yudi Abrimantyo, officially resigned from his position. The TNI’s Information Centre Head (Kapuspen), Aulia Dwi Nasrullah, described the step as a form of institutional accountability amid the ongoing investigation process.

“As part of accountability, today the handover of the KA BAIS position has been carried out,” Aulia said during a press conference at TNI Headquarters, Cilangkap, East Jakarta, on Tuesday (25/3).

This case has also implicated several active personnel from the Strategic Intelligence Agency (BAIS). Four TNI members, namely Captain NDP, Lieutenant SL, Lieutenant BHW, and Sergeant ES, have been named as suspected perpetrators in the acid attack on Andrie Yunus.

To date, all four are still undergoing examination by the TNI’s internal investigation team. This process has drawn public attention, particularly regarding the extent of accountability and transparency of the military institution in handling cases involving its own apparatus.

This development marks a new chapter in the handling of the case while testing the TNI’s commitment to maintaining integrity amid intensifying public pressure.
