The Tangerang City Government’s Dinas Komunikasi dan Informatika (Diskominfo) is maximising the role of the School Information Groups (KIS), integrated with the Organisasi Siswa Intra Sekolah (OSIS), to socialise the PP Tunas programme to colleagues, including the benefits and potential impacts of social media. Mugiya Wardhany, head of the Dinas Kominfo Kota Tangerang, said on Thursday in Tangerang that KIS, integrated with OSIS, collaborates in managing positive content in school environments, including PP Tunas.

“We invite them to jointly share information on the benefits of PP Tunas. This is also part of our effort to ensure students are at the forefront in preventing cyberbullying and other digital crimes,” Mugi said at the Sahabat Tunas Forum at SMP Negeri 25 Kota Tangerang on Thursday.

Additionally, Diskominfo is developing a dedicated complaint channel for reports from children and women. For now, the public can report via LAKSA or direct message to @tangerangkota or @kominfo_tng.

Rizky Aldiansyah Nasution, head of OSIS at SMPN 25 Kota Tangerang, expressed his support for the rule banning mobile phones during class time to maintain student focus, while supporting the Sahabat Tunas programme. “The advent of PP Tunas makes us as students feel that our digital rights in the online world are protected. As OSIS leaders, we keep reminding each other. We hope the programme can be scaled up so that its positive impact is truly felt,” Nasution said.

Deputy Director General of Public Communications and Komdigi Media, Fifi Aleyda Yahya, said the policy is not intended to ban children from using the internet but to delay the ownership of independent social media accounts until the child is 16. This firm action is taken to push global platforms like Google, Meta and Roblox to tighten security for children. “Personal data of children under 16 must not be uploaded indiscriminately to the digital space. In line with directives from the Minister of Komunikasi dan Informatika, the government is there to help parents face the heavy challenge of countering the platform giants’ algorithms,” Fifi asserted.

The event is held as a concrete step in implementing the Child Protection Programme (PP Tunas) or the “Wait for Ready Child” movement, which restricts social media access for those under 16 to protect the digital rights of the coming generation.
