Dishub Launches 'CCTV Takeover' to Educate Road Users at Junctions
The DKI Jakarta Provincial Transportation Agency (Dishub) has launched an innovative road safety education programme called ‘CCTV Jakarta Takeover’, utilising loudspeakers at several traffic junctions to deliver safety messages to road users. Head of the DKI Jakarta Transportation Agency, Budi Awaluddin, stated that the programme is the first of its kind in Jakarta, leveraging loudspeakers at traffic intersections as a medium for safety education involving collaborators. “The hope is that this method can increase road users’ awareness to be more disciplined and make traffic safety a shared habit,” Budi said in Jakarta on Wednesday. In this inaugural programme, Dishub DKI collaborated with Anastasia Putri (Mpok Caca) and comedian Yudhabrajamusti to convey safety appeals directly to the public via CCTV. Currently, loudspeakers are available at six traffic junctions: Harmoni, Patung Kuda, Bank Indonesia, Sarinah, Bundaran Senayan, and Simpang Millenium. Education sessions have been conducted by Mpok Caca and Bang Yudhabramasta at the Millenium, Bank Indonesia, and Sarinah junctions. Going forward, Dishub DKI plans to add more loudspeaker points following surveys at several traffic junctions to broaden the reach of the education programme. Through this programme, the public is reminded to obey traffic lights, stop behind the stop line, wear helmets and seat belts, prioritise pedestrians, and refrain from using mobile phones while driving. The programme is part of an effort to build a culture of traffic discipline through a closer, more creative, and relevant approach to the community. The use of CCTV integrated with loudspeakers also aligns with the development of technology-based supervision to improve road safety. “We hope this programme can increase public awareness to be more disciplined in traffic. In the future, education through speakers at traffic junctions will be carried out routinely by Transportation Agency officers so that a culture of orderly traffic can continue to grow within the community,” Budi said.
