Dishub DKI admits poor coordination as concert caused severe traffic congestion at Rasunda Said
The Jakarta TransportationDepartment ( Dishub DKI Jakarta) revealed that poor coordination with event organisers led to severe traffic congestion in the HR Rasunda Said area of South Jakarta on Sunday evening (31 May). The musical event, attended by approximately 10,000 people, had a public gathering permit from the police, but organisers failed to coordinate with Dishub regarding traffic and parking arrangements.
Jakarta TransportationDepartment head BudiAwaludin stated the department only mobilised after receiving public reports about traffic congestion around the event venue. ‘We apologise to the public affected by the traffic congestion and disruptions in the HR Rasunda Said area. Upon receiving public reports, Dishub officers and Satpol PP immediately deployed to manage traffic and enforce vehicle regulations to alleviate congestion,’ Budi said on Monday (1 June).
He emphasised that coordination with Dishub is crucial for large-scale events likely to attract thousands of visitors. However, in this instance, Dishub DKI received no notifications or technical support requests from the organisers. Consequently, the department had no opportunity to prepare measures such as designated parking areas, officer deployment at vulnerable points, or traffic management to reduce congestion.
Budi explained that if coordination had occurred from the start, Dishub could have recommended public transport use to attendees, which is vital to reduce private vehicle use and minimise traffic impacts. ‘Coordination before the event is essential to enable us to arrange traffic management, parking, and other mitigation measures, ensuring public mobility is maintained,’ he said.
He stressed that the Jakarta provincial government supports community activities and economic initiatives in the capital. However, all event organisers likely to cause mass movement are required to involve relevant authorities during the planning stage. ‘Looking ahead, we urge all event organisers to coordinate with Dishub from the start to optimally prepare mitigation measures and maintain public mobility,’ Budi concluded.
