Jakarta (ANTARA) - Interior Minister (Mendagri) Muhammad Tito Karnavian stated that the discourse on work from home (WFH) is not something new and that socialisation will be conducted with regional governments regarding the readiness of essential services to continue operating.

Meeting reporters after a press conference in Jakarta on Wednesday, Minister Tito mentioned that the government has experience implementing the WFH scheme during the COVID-19 pandemic, and everything ran smoothly.

“No problem. Yes, regional governments also have plenty of experience. It’s just that some regions have new heads, so I will explain to them later. Essential matters like transportation, emergency services, hospitals, and cleanliness must continue,” said the Interior Minister.

He noted that the WFH discourse had previously been discussed in meetings with relevant ministries and agencies to provide input on the plan. However, the results of those meetings will be conveyed further after being reported to President Prabowo Subianto.

The Interior Minister mentioned that one of the proposed schemes is one day of WFH per week.

“But which day will be chosen will be decided later; wait for the results of yesterday’s meeting to be reported to the President,” he said.

When asked further about the choice of day for WFH, the Interior Minister again emphasised that a more complete announcement on the matter will be made after the meeting results are reported to the President.

Previously, the government planned to implement the WFH policy after Eid al-Fitr as a measure to save energy amid rising global oil prices.

In a statement on Saturday (21/3), Coordinating Minister for the Economy Airlangga Hartarto said the policy applies to Civil Servants (ASN) and is also recommended for the private sector.
