Discussions on the implementation of working from home or Work From Home (WFH) for government employees starting from April 2026 remain uncertain. Although technical regulations from the central government have not yet been issued, Badung Regency Government affirms its preparedness.

The Head of the Personnel and Human Resources Development Agency (BKPSDM) of Badung, Wayan Putra Yadnya, stated that his office is still in a passive position, awaiting an official letter. On the other hand, this discourse has already emerged in line with the potential fuel shortage due to the conflict in the Middle East.

“Up to this afternoon, there is still no letter regarding the pattern. Regarding that, we are also waiting (for official guidance) from the province,” said Putra Yadnya on Wednesday (25/3/2026).

To date, there are no implementation guidelines, including how many working days will be shifted to home. Rumours circulating suggest that WFH will apply for one day per week starting next April.

“This is not certain yet. We also don’t know what the exact instructions will be. Once there is, we will update,” he explained.

Although the instructions have not yet been issued, Putra Yadnya assured that Badung will not be caught off guard if this policy is suddenly enforced. Experience during the COVID-19 pandemic serves as a benchmark for their readiness.

“Whether it’s one full day or we rotate like before. Well, this hasn’t been decided by the leadership yet. Later, we will seek guidance,” he clarified.

This WFH discourse is seen as a strategic step by the central government to save energy. The potential BBM crisis due to the war in the Middle East is the main reason behind the plan.

Previously, the Minister of Home Affairs (Mendagri) Tito Karnavian conveyed that several coordinating ministers and technical ministers have agreed on the plan to implement work from home (WFH) for one day per week. This policy is prepared as part of measures to efficiency fuel oil (BBM).

As reported by detikNews, the decision is still awaiting a report to President Prabowo Subianto before being officially announced to the public.

Tito explained that the agreement was reached in an inter-ministerial meeting involving Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal, and Security Affairs Pratikno, Coordinating Minister for the Economy Airlangga Hartarto, Cabinet Secretary Prasetyo Hadi, and Deputy Cabinet Secretary Teddy Indra Wijaya. The meeting, which lasted several hours, discussed various government strategies in anticipating potential global crises due to the conflict in the Middle East.

“The meeting yesterday lasted almost 3 or 4 hours. Yes, but we agreed to speak with one voice, meaning who will convey it, I don’t know who, (the meeting) at the Palace. Whether Mr Coordinating Minister for Political Affairs, Coordinating Minister for Economy, or perhaps by the Cabinet Secretary (who will announce). So, we only provide inputs, but I am not authorised to convey to the public,” said Tito after the PHTC update press conference at the Presidential Palace complex in Jakarta, on Wednesday (25/3/2026).
