Discrepancy in Suspect Initials in Acid Attack on KontraS Activist: Police vs TNI Versions
The TNI and police have released updates on the case involving the acid attack on KontraS Vice Coordinator Andrie Yunus. Both the TNI and police disclosed the suspected perpetrators during their respective press conferences almost simultaneously on Wednesday afternoon.
However, the two institutions have differing versions regarding the number and initials of the suspects.
TNI Version
The TNI’s Pushpom revealed that there are four TNI BAIS personnel as the suspected perpetrators. The four suspects have initials NDP, SL, BWH, and ES.
TNI Pushpom Chief Major General Yusri Nuryanto stated that the four suspects are members of the TNI BAIS Military Police unit from the Navy (AL) and Air Force (AU) branches.
“We convey that all four suspected perpetrators are members of the TNI BAIS Denma, not from any specific unit but from the TNI BAIS Denma,” said Maj Gen Yusri during a press conference at TNI Headquarters, Jakarta, on Wednesday (18/3/2026).
When asked further, Yusri specified that the four suspects are from the AL and AU branches. “From AL and AU,” he added in response to the question.
Furthermore, Yusri mentioned that three out of the four suspects hold officer ranks. The highest rank among them is captain.
“So Captain NDB, First Lieutenant SL, First Lieutenant BHW, Sergeant ES. During the investigation, we will work as thoroughly as possible with the hope of completing it as quickly as possible in a professional manner,” he said.
He stated that the suspects are currently secured. They are also still being intensively questioned by Pushpom TNI.
Police Version
The Metro Jaya Police announced two perpetrators who acted as executors in the acid attack on Andrie Yunus. The two suspects have initials BHC and MAK.
However, the police suspect that the total number of individuals involved in the acid attack exceeds four.
“Currently, we suspect that we can inform that the two individuals we showed earlier from this Polri data—one with initials BHC, two with initials MAK. Nevertheless, from our investigation results, we do not rule out the possibility that the perpetrators could be suspected to be more than four,” said Director of Criminal Investigation Metro Jaya Police Commissioner Iman Imannudin at Metro Jaya Police Headquarters, Jakarta, on Wednesday (18/3/2026).
Kompolnas Statement
Kompolnas responded to the differing investigation results between the police and TNI. Kompolnas Commissioner Mohammad Choirul Anam, or Cak Anam, stated that the suspected perpetrators uncovered by the apparatus are based on objective evidence analysis, one of which is CCTV footage.
“So the most important thing in this incident is the basis of something that can be seen and measured objectively. One of them is CCTV,” said Cak Anam when asked about the differing suspect initials uncovered by Polri and TNI.
According to him, the disclosure of the suspected perpetrators is based on measurable evidence that can be scientifically tested. Cak Anam believes that Polri continues to conduct accountable investigations, including in uncovering the suspected perpetrators.
“Because this incident was recorded on CCTV, the basis must be something that can be measured scientifically, seen with the naked eye, and logically present. Therefore, as police overseers, when they launch CCTV and so on, and previously we also checked, a few days ago we checked the CCTV and the logic of the incident’s flow, we believe that our police colleagues are working accountably. That is the most important thing,” he said.
