Discrepancies in TNI-Polri Statements on Acid Attack Case Spark Public Doubts, Analyst Says
JAKARTA - The Head of the Center for Intermestic and Diplomatic Engagement (CIDE), Anton Aliabbas, believes that the discrepancies in information between Polri investigators and the TNI are fuelling public doubts about the handling of the acid attack case against KontraS activist Andrie Yunus.
“The growing doubts regarding the handling of the case that upholds professionalism, transparency, and accountability,” said Anton when contacted by Kompas.com on Thursday (19/3/2026).
Meanwhile, the TNI’s Military Police Command revealed four suspected perpetrators: Captain NDP, Lieutenant SL, Lieutenant BHW, and Sergeant ES.
Moreover, he said, there has been no complete information yet regarding the investigation of the case from the TNI side.
“The public is not presented with complete and comprehensive information regarding the progress of the investigation, such as how many parties have been examined, collaboration with Polri, and so on,” he stated.
It was previously reported that at least four members of TNI’s Bais were involved in the acid attack case against Andrie Yunus. They are Captain NDP, Lieutenant SL, Lieutenant BHW, and Sergeant ES.
So far, they have been detained at the TNI’s Military Police Command before their detention is later transferred to the Jakarta Military District Police.
However, two of the four personnel were the executors of the acid attack on Andrie Yunus.
The acid attack incident on KontraS Deputy Coordinator Andrie Yunus occurred on Thursday night (12/3/2026) in the Senen area, Central Jakarta.
As a result of the attack, Andrie suffered burns to several parts of his body, including his eyes, face, chest, and hands.
KontraS Working Body Coordinator Dimas Bagus Arya said the incident happened after Andrie finished recording a podcast at the office of the Indonesian Legal Aid Foundation (YLBHI), Menteng, Jakarta.
