Discovery of Suspected Baby Foetus Floating in River Causes Uproar Among Depok Residents

Residents of Cilodong, Depok City, were shocked by the discovery of a suspected baby foetus in the Kali Bakung river. The foetus, measuring less than a handspan in size, was found floating.

The foetus was discovered on Wednesday (10/6) at 9.30 a.m. Western Indonesia Time in the Kali Bakung, Cilodong, Depok. Initially, a witness was sweeping their yard at 9.00 a.m.

"Then a resident informed them that there was a baby’s body floating in the Kali Bakung," said AKP Hendra, Head of Public Relations for the Depok Metro Police, in a statement on Thursday (11/6/2026).

The witness then notified the local neighbourhood unit head. At around 9.00 a.m., the first witness called a second witness to report there was a baby’s body floating. "The second witness then went to the scene. After confirming the discovery of the baby’s body, the second witness contacted the Cilodong Community Policing officer, Aipda M Anas, to report the incident," he said.

At 10.30 a.m., the on-duty identification unit of the Depok Metro Police, led by Identification Unit Chief Iptu M Rochmat, evacuated the baby’s body from the Kali Bakung for identification. "However, after identification was carried out, the body was already formed as a baby, but the sex was not yet visible," he said.

From photographs received by journalists, the foetus appeared to be fully formed, possessing two hands and two feet. Its size was less than a handspan.
