Discovering Kutoarjo Station in Purworejo, with Subsidised Fare Trains

For example, residents of Purworejo can travel to Jakarta using the Bengawan train with fares starting from Rp 70,000 to Rp 74,000. Meanwhile, for destinations to Bandung, the Kutojaya Selatan train is available with fares of Rp 58,000 to Rp 62,000. Not only that, the Kahuripan train is also a favourite choice because it connects Purworejo to areas in East Java, such as Kediri and Blitar, with fares starting from Rp 80,000 to Rp 84,000. “These affordable fares are realised through the PSO scheme, which is a subsidised public transportation service from the government via the Directorate General of Railways of the Ministry of Transportation,” said As’ad. From this station, tourists can continue their journey to various popular tourist spots, such as Borobudur Temple, the southern coastal area of Purworejo, and the western region of Yogyakarta. In 2023, the average volume of departing and arriving passengers was recorded at 77,117 people per month. This figure increased to 92,354 passengers in 2024 and rose again to 97,408 passengers in 2025. Meanwhile, up to April 2026, the average number of passengers has reached 116,672 people per month.
