Depok Mayor Supian Suri has issued a circular letter concerning regulations on activities during Ramadan. The Depok municipal government has urged food stalls to use curtains and has banned nightlife entertainment activities.

The circular letter, numbered 300/76/Satpol PP/2026, pertains to activities welcoming the holy month of Ramadan 1447 Hijriah. It was drafted as part of efforts to realise the ‘Together for a Progressive Depok’ vision, guided by prevailing laws and regulations.

In the circular, Supian called on all Depok residents to maintain solemnity and respect during Ramadan through mutual regard and consideration. Residents are expected to actively participate in supporting the enhancement of religious activities in a coordinated and structured manner.

“Muslims in Depok should carry out their Ramadan worship properly and correctly, to strengthen their faith and piety. Thirdly, restaurant owners or managers of eateries and food stalls are urged to install covering cloth or curtains in their business premises during daytime hours throughout Ramadan,” the circular stated.

Additionally, the document sets out operational rules for nightlife entertainment venues in accordance with Depok City Regional Regulation Number 16 of 2013, Article 48, paragraph (7), concerning Tourism. Discotheques and massage parlours in Depok are prohibited from operating during Ramadan.

“Specifically, bars, nightclubs, discotheques, karaoke or singing establishments, pubs, massage parlours, billiard halls and traditional cultural art studios that operate as commercial entertainment businesses are prohibited from conducting their business activities during the holy month of Ramadan and major religious holidays,” the circular explained.

The circular further states that civil servants, employees within the Depok municipal government, and Depok residents who are not observing the fast are urged to refrain from eating, drinking and smoking in public or open spaces during daytime hours. Supian Suri has instructed sub-district and village heads to disseminate the circular to residents in their respective areas.
