Discotheque visitors mob thief

JAKARTA (JP): Visitors at Java Jave discotheque on Jl Tanah Abang Raya in Central Jakarta mobbed a man, who was caught red handed stealing a bag belonging to one of the discotheque visitors early on Tuesday.

Tanah Abang Subprecinct Police chief Adj. Comr. Fadil Imron identified the man as Salius Tarigan, 25, a resident of Jl. Kusir, Kebayoran Lama, South Jakarta.

Fadil said Salius pretended to get drunk and approached a table on which visitor Chotijah, 29, had left her bag while she was dancing.

He said Chotijah saw Salius picking up her bag and shouted "thief", causing other visitors to run after him.

"The visitors then spontaneously beat up the thief. The discotheque security personnel then handed over the thief to police," he said.

He added that the police still were detaining Salius for questioning. (01)
