Disbanding the Golkar Party

Disbanding the Golkar Party

From Media Indonesia

A number of social groups have demanded that the Golkar Party be disbanded, saying the party had committed sins during the New Order era and caused sufferings to the people.

Honestly, I wonder whether people really lived in misery during Soeharto's era and whether they are living happily in the present reform era. What I can be sure of is that in the present era we are all living in uncertainty and there is no bright prospect is in sight.

The country has a new president now. I am sure Ibu Megawati, the incumbent president, has never considered taking revenge although she suffered a lot during the New Order era. There are many other more pressing issues on her priority list and the people want to live in peace. Many people will find it ridiculous that there are groups still preoccupied with demands that the Golkar Party be disbanded. Fortunately, the Golkar Party leaders and members are politically mature and do not deem it necessary to retaliate.

If disbanding a certain political party is considered necessary to improve the people's welfare, the question now is which party should be disbanded.
