Disband IBRA
Disband IBRA
From Koran Tempo
After reading an article in the Jan. 11, 2002 edition of Koran Tempo titled Suspend the chairman of the Indonesian Bank Restructuring Agency (IBRA), I can conclude that IBRA is a slick den of corruption, collusion and nepotism (KKN). IBRA's incredible costs, such as salary, facility and consultancy fees, are higher than the state assets it can save. In other words, IBRA provides no net benefit for the country or its people. IBRA is merely useful as a source of KKN for its officers and collaborators.
Therefore, I propose that IBRA should be disbanded now. Any matters outstanding between IBRA and conglomerates or debtors should be functionally returned to Bank Indonesia or the source banks, which have practiced KKN with the conglomerates and debtors.
Accordingly, retrenchment can be achieved with the dissolution of IBRA. Whether or not Bank Indonesia can succeed in resolving the outstanding debts is not a problem as no significant resolution has been reached by IBRA. The continued existence of IBRA is simply enriching certain officials from the agency, and some debtors.
