MANADO, North Sulawesi: The various natural disasters, such as
floods and landslides, which occurred this year and damaged
public facilities have caused an estimated financial loss of Rp
15 billion (US$6.6 million).
A number of irrigation installations and portions of roads
were wrecked in the disasters, according to head of the local
office of the Ministry of Public Works, J.P. Rantung.
Workers restored traffic by constructing temporary passages
along the damaged roads in the regency of Bolaang Mongondow,
Antara reported.
Rantung said some of the most severely damaged irrigation
installations are in the regencies of Bolaang Mongondow and
Gorontalo. His office will try to request a state budget to
repair the damage, he said.
Last year's natural disasters in the province caused a
financial loss of Rp 4 billion. (swe)
