Jakarta — Indonesia’s Interior Minister, who also chairs the Sumatra Post-Disaster Acceleration and Rehabilitation Task Force, Tito Karnavian, has called on regional administrations to promptly complete data on affected disaster victims so that assistance can be distributed to communities impacted by disasters.

According to Tito, the central government prioritises regions that most rapidly submit victim data to receive aid first.

“The strategy is straightforward: whoever sends data fastest will also receive social assistance most quickly,” said Tito in a statement in Jakarta on Sunday (8 March).

The Interior Minister also emphasised that the speed and completeness of data from regional administrations are critical to accelerating aid distribution to disaster victims in Aceh, North Sumatra and West Sumatra.

He noted that the first phase of assistance distribution reached nearly 900 billion rupiah. Of this amount, approximately half was allocated to Aceh.

“From nearly 900 billion rupiah in first-phase assistance, approximately half goes to Aceh. Of the Aceh allocation, more than 200 billion rupiah has been distributed to Pidie Jaya because it submitted data fastest and most completely,” he said.

Based on data from the Ministry of Social Affairs, distributed assistance includes survivor compensation for 56 deceased victims totalling 840 million rupiah, aid for 23 seriously injured victims worth 115 million rupiah, and a 90-day living allowance for 66,629 people with a total value of approximately 89.9 billion rupiah.

Additionally, the government provided temporary housing assistance for 18,839 family heads totalling 56.5 billion rupiah and socio-economic stimulus assistance for 18,839 family heads worth 94.1 billion rupiah to support post-disaster economic recovery, with a combined total of 241.6 billion rupiah. This assistance was distributed through PT Pos Indonesia.

Meanwhile, the Ministry of Home Affairs also provided 250 religious equipment packages, 20 dump trucks, seven excavators and three backhoe loaders to assist in accelerating disaster response and recovery in affected areas.

Tito reiterated that accelerating permanent housing construction also depends on complete data from regional administrations, including residents’ preferences regarding whether houses should be built on their own land or in communal housing complexes.

He urged regional heads to promptly establish teams to conduct detailed data collection of residents so that permanent housing construction can proceed swiftly.

“Once data is complete, we can proceed directly with implementation together with the National Disaster Management Agency and the Ministry of Housing,” he said.
