The Acceleration of Rehabilitation and Reconstruction Task Force (Satgas PRR) for Post-Disaster Sumatra has set a target to relocate all evacuees still living in emergency tent shelters in Aceh Province, North Sumatra (Sumut), and West Sumatra (Sumbar) to more dignified housing before Eid al-Fitr 2026.

The target was announced during a ministerial coordination meeting held at the Office of the Ministry of Coordinating for Human Development and Culture (Kemenko PMK) in Jakarta on Friday, 27 February 2026.

Muhammad Tito Karnavian, Chair of the Satgas PRR for Post-Disaster Sumatra, stated that accelerating evacuee relocation is one of the main focuses in the rehabilitation and reconstruction phase. He also noted that the number of evacuees has declined significantly compared to the early stages of the disaster.

The majority of remaining evacuees are in Aceh Province, numbering 10,394 individuals, whilst North Sumatra has 913 remaining evacuees and West Sumatra’s evacuees have completely vacated emergency tents.

“We hope to complete the relocation as quickly as possible before Eid al-Fitr. Ideally, before Eid al-Fitr, no one will be in tents but rather in temporary housing or receiving temporary housing allowances,” Tito said in a press statement received by Kompas.com on Saturday, 28 February 2026.

To support this acceleration, the Satgas PRR continues to promote the construction of temporary housing (huntara), permanent housing (huntap), and the distribution of temporary housing allowances.

As of 27 February 2026, task force data showed that temporary housing construction targets across the three provinces had reached 18,253 units with 10,498 units completed, equivalent to 57 per cent realisation. Permanent housing construction has also begun, with 1,363 units from a target of 36,669 units currently under construction. Meanwhile, six permanent housing projects in West Sumatra have been completed.

Additionally, assistance for repairing damaged homes continues on a phased basis. Over 73,000 residential units have been identified as sustaining light, moderate, or severe damage.

The Satgas PRR ensures that inter-ministerial and inter-agency coordination as well as cooperation with regional governments (pemda) is operating intensively to accelerate housing completion. Support from the Ministry of Public Works and Public Housing (PUPR), the National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB), Danantara, and provincial, district, and municipal governments is an important component in ensuring affected communities transition promptly to safe and dignified housing.

The coordination meeting was attended by the Minister Coordinating for Human Development and Culture Pratikno, the Minister Coordinating for Politics and Security Djamari Chaniago, the Minister Coordinating for Infrastructure and Territorial Affairs Agus Harimurti Yudhoyono, the Minister Coordinating for Community Empowerment Muhaimin Iskandar, the Minister of National Development Planning/Bappenas Rachmat Pambudy, and the Head of the Government Goods and Services Procurement Policy Institution Sarah Sadiqa. Virtually attending were the Minister of Higher Education, Science and Technology Brian Yuliarto, the Minister of Communication and Digital Affairs Meutya Hafid, the Deputy Minister of Women’s Empowerment and Child Protection Veronica Tan, the Head of BNPB Suharyanto, and the Head of the National Research and Innovation Agency Arif Satria.
