Crowds of shoppers began appearing from seven days before Eid, with the majority purchasing children’s and adult clothing, said Kusuma, a clothing shop attendant, to ANTARA on Tuesday.

In the modest-sized shop, a variety of clothing items were on display for customers to choose from, including garments, trousers, Muslim clothing, children’s toys, and sandals for both men and women.

Affordable prices have been the main reason residents shop for new clothing at this shop. A large advertising board displayed prices starting from IDR 35,000 for three pieces of clothing.

This shop has become a popular destination for locals seeking new clothes to wear when Eid arrives. The majority of visitors are mothers and children.

Shop staff continue to ensure children can get new clothes for Eid. Speaking to ANTARA, Daini stated that she was purchasing new clothes for her three children.

“We came to this shop to buy new clothes for our three children. Even though we are in the midst of a disaster, when we have income, there is nothing wrong with buying our children new clothes,” said Daini whilst browsing the clothing.

“Our house was flooded and our clothes were swept away by the water. Now, with income from the business we are rebuilding, we are giving our children new clothes,” she added.

Previously, Daini operated a food and drink stall in front of her residence. Currently, she runs a motorcycle washing service with her husband at their new rented premises located in Lubuk Tukko Baru, Pandan District, Tapanuli Tengah Regency, North Sumatra.
