Jakarta — The Acceleration Task Force for Post-Disaster Rehabilitation and Reconstruction (PRR) following the Sumatra catastrophe has now entered the realisation phase of permanent housing (Huntap) construction for disaster survivors in Aceh Province, North Sumatra, and West Sumatra.

The Interior Minister and Chair of the PRR Acceleration Task Force for Post-Disaster Rehabilitation and Reconstruction in Sumatra, Tito Karnavian, affirmed the government’s commitment to prioritising acceleration of Huntap construction.

For this reason, he stated his intention to continue pressing local leaders for complete data to ensure the construction process is not hampered by administrative obstacles.

“The speed of Huntap construction depends first and foremost on data from local government. We must ask residents one by one. I will certainly pursue all the bupatis; I will certainly pursue the governors to ensure they prepare their data,” Tito said in a statement in Jakarta on Friday.

Based on PRR Task Force data as of 26 February, Huntap construction in the three disaster-affected areas in Sumatra is planned for 17,969 units, with 401 units already completed. Huntap construction is proceeding following the PRR Task Force’s completion of most temporary housing facilities (Huntara).

Details of Huntap construction in the three provinces include: of 9,430 Huntap units planned for Aceh survivors, 104 units are currently under construction. From 4,493 units planned for North Sumatra survivors, 524 units are currently under construction. This figure represents an increase compared to the previous week, which stood at 297 units as of 20 February.

Meanwhile in West Sumatra, of 4,046 Huntap units planned for survivors, 817 units are currently under construction. This figure is an increase compared to the previous figure of 655 units as of 20 February.

These figures demonstrate that Huntap construction remains in the early construction phase, given that permanent housing development requires site preparation, technical planning, and permanent infrastructure according to disaster-resistant building standards, which are more complex than temporary housing.

Huntap construction is being conducted in parallel by cross-sectoral entities, including the National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB), the Police (Polri), the Housing and Settlement Ministry (PKP), the Buddha Tzu Chi Foundation, the Ministry of Political and Security Affairs, the National Zakat Collection Agency (Baznas), Danantara, and the Chamber of Commerce and Industry (Kadin).
