Disaster Mitigation to Cyber Security: Krakatau Posco Educates Cilegon Students
Awareness of safety, health, and digital security needs to be instilled from school age amidst the increasing risks in daily life. Therefore, PT Krakatau Posco is pushing to strengthen education for the younger generation through various training programmes covering disaster mitigation, first aid, digital literacy, and environmental management. Krakatau Posco President Director Kim Young Joong said that safety is not only a responsibility in the workplace, but also needs to become part of the daily life of the community, including the younger generation. “This activity presents various educational programmes aimed at increasing the younger generation’s awareness of safety, health, the environment, and digital security,” Kim said in a written statement on Wednesday (10/6/2026). The programme, which ran from 4-12 June 2026, was centred at SMP Negeri 4 Cilegon. Globally, around 20 thousand employees of the POSCO Group in various countries were involved in the simultaneously held social activities. Kim explained that the volunteers provided education through six classes structured around the challenges currently facing society. The materials covered disaster mitigation, handling emergency conditions, basic life support, healthy lifestyle patterns, social media literacy, cyber security, and waste management. In the Early Fire & Disaster Response Education session, students were introduced to disaster mitigation steps and initial handling in emergency situations such as fires or natural disasters. Meanwhile, through CPR Training, students received basic training on first aid and basic life support for conditions involving cardiac arrest or other emergency situations. In the health aspect, Krakatau Posco raised the theme of the importance of consuming nutritious food and implementing a healthy lifestyle to support children’s growth and development. The company also provided education on social media ethics and digital security through Education on Creating Safe Social Media Content and IT Security Training classes. This material covered the wise use of social media, the protection of personal data, and understanding cyber threats. In addition, students were invited to understand the importance of waste sorting through the Waste Separation Campaign & Education programme, which also introduced waste management practices implemented within the company’s environment. “As a company, we are not solely focused on profit, but we also want to grow together and share happiness with the community around us,” said Kim. Cilegon Deputy Mayor Fajar Hadi Prabowo appreciated the activity. According to him, the safety culture implemented by Krakatau Posco can serve as an example for the community. “From today’s activities, it is clear that Krakatau Posco instils the aspect of safety in every step, not only within the company’s environment but also to the community. I highly appreciate this,” Fajar said.
