Disaster Before Our Eyes: Trump Gives Unexpected Comments on AI
US President Donald Trump is seeking to stem the emergence of further regulations on artificial intelligence (AI). The stance comes amid a mounting wave of public concern over the potential dangers of the technology.
Bosses of the technology giants, including Dario Amodei (Anthropic), Sam Altman (OpenAI) and Elon Musk (xAI), are united in believing that the advancement of frontier AI needs to be reined in to prioritise public safety.
Previously, Jacob Coxon, a former Anthropic AI researcher, issued an even more alarming warning. According to him, the unstoppable pace of AI risks bringing humanity face to face with extinction in the coming decade.
None of this, however, has softened Trump’s position. He remains firmly of the view that AI development must continue. Indeed, Trump bluntly described fears that AI would take over the world and wipe out humanity as fake news, or a hoax.
“AI taking over the world, destroying humanity and all the other bad things is a hoax,” Trump wrote in a post on his Truth Social social media account, quoted by Politico on Tuesday (15/9/2026).
Earlier, he had also suggested that his administration had already curbed excessive rules surrounding AI. According to Trump, the only ‘control’ AI needs is a strong and intelligent president — referring to himself.
“The only control or safeguard needed for AI is a strong and intelligent president (with a high IQ!), and America has one, more than enough,” Trump continued in an earlier post.
Not only that, Trump dragged in the United States’ old rival, China. He believes Beijing actually benefits from the ‘evil conspiracy’ narrative surrounding AI and data centres.
Trump stressed that his main priority at present is to ensure that China does not emerge as the winner in mastering the new technology — which is believed to be capable of reshaping the structure of civil society.
On the same occasion, Trump fired a pointed jab at Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei, saying he was pretending to be a ‘perfect little angel’. Relations between the two have indeed grown heated, evidenced by the US government’s policy banning all federal agencies from using Anthropic products.
Previously, Amodei had called on AI companies to slow the pace of their models’ capability development amid deepening global concerns. That call has recently been endorsed by a number of other technology bosses, such as xAI CEO Elon Musk and OpenAI CEO Sam Altman.
