Disaster at Jembrana Funfair: Three Visitors Fall from Roller Coaster
Three visitors narrowly escaped death after becoming victims of a roller coaster accident at a public market or funfair in Pergung Village, Mendoyo District, Jembrana. The incident occurred around 10:05 p.m. local time on Tuesday (16/6/2026). The accident is suspected to have been triggered by an excessive load and the ride’s speed being too high. The three victims were identified as I Kade Agus Suardika (27), I Putu Agus Ariadi (32), and a teenage girl named Ni Made Ayu Winda Dian Wintari (16).
“It is true, an accident occurred where people were flung off while riding the jet coaster,” confirmed Mendoyo Police Chief Kompol I Wayan Sartika when contacted on Thursday (18/6/2026).
The incident began when the roller coaster was operating along its track. Shockingly, two passengers suddenly detached from their seats and fell directly to the ground. Meanwhile, another victim struck an iron support pole of the ride. “While the ride was in progress, the first and second victims suddenly detached from the ride they were on and fell to the ground. The third victim’s shoulder struck the ride’s support pole,” he explained.
As a result of the incident, all three victims had to be rushed for medical treatment. I Kadek Agus Suardika (27) suffered abrasions on his left thigh, swelling on his right ankle, knee, shin, and right eye. The victim was immediately taken by the organisers to a traditional masseur for treatment. I Putu Agus Ariadi (32) experienced pain in his left shoulder, general body aches, and abdominal pain. The organisers rushed him to Mendoyo 1 Community Health Centre. Ni Made Ayu Winda Dian Wintari (16) suffered pain in her left shoulder and the left side of her face. She is currently being treated at Mendoyo 1 Community Health Centre.
In addition to her injuries, the teenage girl (Made Ayu) also reportedly lost valuable belongings during the incident, including a Vivo Y-21 mobile phone and a grey wallet containing personal identification and approximately Rp 50,000 in cash.
Based on the initial investigation, the accident is strongly suspected to have been caused by technical operational factors where the ride exceeded its capacity. “The likely cause of the accident was excessive load and the speed of the ride, causing the victims to be thrown off,” Sartika stated. The ride owner from Kediri, East Java, named Winardi (59), has taken responsibility for the incident by facilitating all medical treatment for the three victims. The victims are currently still undergoing intensive care and recovery for their injuries. “To prevent similar incidents, we continue to issue warnings and conduct checks according to standard operating procedures for ride owners at this public market,” Sartika concluded.
