Jakarta (ANTARA) - The family of the victim in the murder of bank branch manager MIP (37) has expressed deep disappointment, choosing to surrender all forms of justice to God after hearing the verdict of the defendants at the Military Court II-08 Jakarta.

“After the sentencing hearing today, we can only surrender ourselves to Allah SWT,” said the bank manager’s father-in-law, Iwan Triwansyah, following the verdict at the Military Court II-08 Jakarta on Wednesday.

The 69-year-old man admitted that it remains difficult to accept the decision, which he believes is disproportionate to the suffering experienced by the family due to the loss of their loved one. He stated that he can only shake his head whenever he remembers the verdict read in court.

“Today, I can only shake my head and take a long breath. What we hoped for regarding the murder of my son-in-law turned out to be disproportionate to the punishment,” said Iwan.

According to him, the victim’s family has followed the entire legal process in the hope of obtaining justice deemed commensurate with the loss of Muhammad Ilham Pradipta’s life. However, the final result of the trial is deemed unable to heal the wounds felt by the family.

“I hope that they feel the punishment in this world, even if only for a short time. But in the hereafter, it will not be rejected. There will be an equivalent punishment for their actions in this world,” Iwan added.

For the victim’s family, this belief serves as their only strength after undergoing a long legal journey since the case emerged in the public eye. The loss of MIP has left not only grief but also a long struggle for the family in seeking justice.

During the occasion, Iwan also described his family’s position as ordinary citizens with limited means to fight for their hopes. However, amidst these limitations, he emphasised that the family will remain steadfast in their faith and prayers. “We, the victim’s family, are very disappointed, but in the end, we leave everything to Allah,” said Iwan.

In its verdict, the panel of judges stated that the first defendant, Serka Mochamad Nasir, was sentenced to 13 years in prison; the second defendant, Kopda Feri Herianto, was sentenced to seven years in prison; and the third defendant, Serka Frengky Yaru, was sentenced to one year in prison.

The first and second defendants were also subject to additional penalties, including dismissal from military service. Furthermore, the first defendant was ordered to pay restitution of Rp750 million, while the second defendant was ordered to pay Rp500 million.
