Disabled Woman in Jombang Murdered by Older Brother for Being a 'Nuisance'

A woman with an intellectual disability from Jombang, East Java, named Choiriyah (47), was murdered by her own older brother, Suparni (61). The murder was triggered by the perpetrator’s frustration, as he felt the victim was constantly disturbing him. The case began when the victim was found dead on Friday (12/6) at around 10:00 WIB. Suparni initially stated the victim died from a fall in the bathroom, leading to the body being buried on the same day. However, this account was later contradicted after witness testimony emerged revealing suspected violence against the victim prior to her death. The police then intervened and exhumed the victim’s body. On Sunday (14/6), the Jombang Police Resmob Team picked up Suparni for questioning. On the same day, police also exhumed and performed an autopsy on Choiriyah’s body at the Pajaran Hamlet Islamic Cemetery. A series of investigations ultimately revealed the victim died from repeated abuse by Suparni. Police also found a broomstick used as evidence of the perpetrator’s assault on the victim. The perpetrator subsequently admitted to his actions, claiming he was annoyed and felt the victim was always bothering him.
