Disabled Games closed
JAKARTA (JP): The second National Games for the Mentally Retarded was officially closed yesterday with Hong Kong taking the lead in almost all events in which it took part during the three-day meet at Madya Senayan stadium.
As a rule, neither overall the winner nor medal tallies were announced at the end of the quadrennial games which featured 35 events, including track and field, badminton, table tennis, soccer and volleyball.
Participants came from 15 of Indonesia's 27 provinces, India and Hong Kong. Their IQs ranged from 30 to 75 by Binnet standard and their age from 8 to 29.
R.A. Aryanto, the chairman of Special Olympics Indonesia (SOI) which organized the meet, said the meet was intended to boost the self-esteem of the mentally disabled and to appeal to the public to help them. (arf)
