Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Directorate General of Taxes (DJP) under the Ministry of Finance has urged the public to beware of tax fraud carried out by individuals impersonating the tax authority.

“The DJP reminds the public to remain vigilant against fraudulent schemes perpetrated in the name of DJP officials or employees,” said DJP Director of Outreach, Services and Public Relations Inge Diana Rismawanti in a written statement in Jakarta on Wednesday.

According to Inge, fraudsters offer fake tax services through various deceptive methods.

Based on data compiled by the DJP, the pretexts commonly used by scammers include the integration of National Identity Numbers (NIK) with Taxpayer Identification Numbers (NPWP) and tax data confirmation, the implementation of the Coretax DJP application, and the transfer or promotion of DJP officials and employees.

The fraudulent methods employed include contacting members of the public via WhatsApp to download files in APK format, sending fake links to download the M-Pajak application, demanding settlement of tax bills, processing purported tax refunds, and requesting payment for electronic stamp duty by clicking on or accessing fraudulent links.

Other tactics include telephoning members of the public and requesting money transfers whilst impersonating DJP officials or employees.

Should members of the public receive similar requests from individuals claiming to be DJP officials or employees, they may verify the authenticity of such communications through their nearest tax office, the Kring Pajak hotline at 1500200, or by emailing pengaduan@pajak.go.id.

The public may also carry out verification through the X account @kring_pajak, the website https://pengaduan.pajak.go.id, or the live chat service at https://www.pajak.go.id.

In addition, the DJP has encouraged the public to report fraud through the channels provided by the Ministry of Communications and Digital as well as law enforcement authorities.

For the Ministry of Communications and Digital channels, the public may submit complaints regarding fraudulent telephone numbers at https://aduannomor.id, whilst complaints regarding fraudulent content, links, or applications may be lodged at https://aduankonten.id.
